Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Providence Care!  Here are some of the current openings across our organization.  Don’t see a program above that suits your abilities/availability? We have new requests everyday! Want to volunteer with a friend or as family?  Please Contact Us.

Mental Health Services

  • Marketing & Merchandising: A volunteer is needed to assist the gift shop manager with merchandise display and marketing strategy in our hospital gift shop.  When: Flexible.   
  • Knitters:  Knitters are needed to knit baby items for our gift shop.  Wool will be provided.  When: Flexible.
  • One-to-one visitors: Visitors are needed for several patients on our geriatric units. Volunteers provide companionship and activities to enhance the quality of life of the patients.  When: Flexible. 
  • Spiritual Care Volunteers: Volunteer escorts are needed to assist in bringing down patients to the worship services. When: Times required are Tuesday, Friday or Sunday afternoons. Volunteers normally work 1 1/2 hours per week.   

Providence Manor

  • Special Events: Volunteers needed to assist at a variety of special events throughout the year. When:  Flexible days and times.
  • Bus Trip Companion: Volunteers required to accompany residents on a variety of staff managed bus trips in and around Kingston. When: One shift per week. Mondays - 1 pm until 4 pm.
  • Medical Companion:  Volunteers wanted to accompany residents to medical appointments. When:  Various times and days.
  • Activity Assistants:  Volunteers needed to assist Activity staff with a variety
    of recreational programs. When:  Various times and days.
    Spiritual Care Volunteers:  Volunteers required to porter residents to and from Mass.  When: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, 10:30 am to noon. 
  • Country Store Shopkeeper: Provide customer service in the Shop. When:  Shifts are 1 or 2 hours in length between the hours of 11:30 am and 3:30 pm. 

St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital  

  • Gift Shop:  Assist customers, handle & balance cash register, assist with stocking when needed.  When:  Daily – morning (9:30-12:30), afternoon (12:30-3:30), evening shifts available (5:00-7:00).
  • Java Net Spa: Social time for our patients to enjoy working on the computers, get hand massages, manicures, conversation and a coffee.  When: Monday - Friday, 8:45 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
  • Community Outings:  Help is needed to escort and assist Therapeutic Recreation staff and patients on outings. Some of the outings are shopping, bowling, bingo, country drives, lunch at a restaurant, etc. When:  Approx. between 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays (usually 2-3 hr outing), occasional Wednesdays and Saturdays (you do not need to be available for all days).
  • Lunch and Supper Groups: Help is needed for lunch and dinner groups to assist with portering to/from room, assisting with preparation/clean-up, and assisting in feeding patients. When: Variety of times (lunches typically between 11:00-1:00 and dinners 4:00-6:30)
  • Find Your Way Desk: Assisting with directions/information, serving coffee and juice in lobby, etc. When: shifts available throughout the weekdays.
  • Tea, Toast and Talk: Room to room visiting with a snack. Nightly 6:30pm-8:30pm
  • One to one visiting: Friendly visiting with patients
  • Second Cup Coffee: Serving coffee and juice in lobby. Saturdays between 10:00-12:00  
  • Sunday Church Service: Looking for volunteers to assist in bringing patients to Catholic Church service.
  • Musicians: We are looking for a volunteer to play the piano on Sunday’s at our Catholic Church service.
  • Patient Escorts: Escorting patients on medical appointments; shifts vary in time. Not scheduled weekly shifts; called as needed, we are looking for volunteers available in the mornings.
  • Sing-a-long: Join us Friday mornings for singing the oldies – we have the words so you don’t need to know them all! Looking for assistance with portering to and from the sunroom, as well as participation in the singing. When: Friday’s between 10:45-noon
  • Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy experience: We have a hydro-therapy pool open Mon-Fri with shifts between 8:30-9:30; Respiratory Rehab on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 12:30-3:00; O.T. groups Monday/Wednesday and Thursday between 10:45-noon. *PLEASE NOTE THESE POSITIONS FILL QUICKLY and preference will be given to returning students.
  • Chronic Pain Clinic: Thursday and Friday between 8:30-12:00 & 1:00-4:30.
  • Saturday events: We need people to assist with Bingos, entertainment, meal programs, etc. Shifts will vary in the hours. 

Regional Community Brain Injury Services (RCBIS)

  • Activty Assistant: a volunteer is needed to meet with clients who have experienced a brain injury.  Volunteers provide an opportunity for conversation, reduce feelings of isolation and participate in activities of interest.  When: Flexible.
