Established in 1946 by the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul, Providence Care's St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital site in Kingston provides non-acute health care for people living in Southeastern Ontario. A teaching hospital affiliated with Queen's University, St. Mary's specializes in rehabilitation, specialized geriatric services, complex continuing care and palliative care. Services extend across the full continuum of care - inpatient, outpatient, and community.
St. Mary's has a total of 144 beds: 72 complex continuing care, 6 palliative care, 46 rehabilitation,16 geriatric medicine, and 4 respite care beds. The approach to care is holistic - staff and volunteers attend to the medical, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each person. Since patients tend to stay longer, this human touch makes all the difference.
