 Providence Manor is a long-term care home, located in the heart of Kingston’s downtown. It is where in 1861 the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul first began their mission in southeastern Ontario, caring for the frail elderly. Now, Providence Care operates the home, continuing the work of the Sisters to provide compassionate care through long-term care and adult day programs, as well as support services for people living with disabilities in the community.
Providence Manor is a 243-bed home for frail seniors whose medical conditions are stable. The residents are not acutely ill, but they do need 24-hour nursing care and supervision. The home has a secure Alzheimer Unit and two bed for short, respite stays. The Hildegarde Centre and Adult Day Away program at Providence Manor provide a variety of recreational, physical, social and spiritual activities in a structured setting, offering respite to clients and their caregivers.
Many residents have private rooms, decorated with their own personal touch. Each unit has its own cozy kitchen and dining room, and a broad range of services, activities and amenities are available – all in a homelike environment. Providence Manor takes a holistic approach to care and encourages residents to work toward their own personal goals for health and quality of life.
Families and friends are welcome to visit daily until 9pm. Exceptions are made for compassionate reasons.
Spiritual & religious care
Worship services are held in the Mother of Sorrows Chapel, a beautiful sanctuary built in 1898. Services and pastoral visiting are offered by clergy of different denominations. The faith of individuals is respected.
Admission and short stays
Admissions to long-term care homes in Ontario are arranged by Community Care Access Centres (CCAC), as mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The CCAC also maintains waiting lists. Fees
Fees are set by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Additional charges, also set by the Ministry, apply to private and semi-private accommodation.
