1 - The Mental Status Examination (MSE)
The Mental Status Examination (MSE) is an integral component of the clinical interview and consists of a set of standard observations and inquiries intended to evaluate Sensorium and Cognition, Perception, Thinking, Feeling and Behaviour. Effective assessment skills are part of the Canadian Standards of Mental Health Nursing. Participants in the workshop will review the components of the MSE and have the opportunity to practice the skills through a training video.
2 - SBAR Communication Reporting Tool
SBAR stands for Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation. It is a structured communication process designed to minimize the possibility of communication failure that can lead to inadvertent client harm. Participants in the workshop will be given an overview of the SBAR tool with a practice session to demonstrate its efficacy.
3 - The Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship
The Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship is a Practice Standard of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Participants in the workshop will review the college standard and be given the opportunity to discuss therapeutic communication, client-centred care, recovery and protecting client from abuse.
